Lecture on Pickles made from Seeds with Genius Pickle Artist Jin-kun in Wild Paradise
Report - Harvest section-
Have you ever harvested vegetables you sowed from seed yourself?
It has been several years since I moved to Fujino, a place rich in nature.
I wanted to try growing my own vegetables, so I asked my landlord to plant a garden for me, but...
However, I still haven't been able to grow any vegetables.
I want to start working in the field! But it is true that there are many hurdles for beginners who don't know where to start.
Mr. Ban lives nearby and has been practicing natural farming for 10 years.
Until now, Mr. Ban has been selling the vegetables, fruits, and processed goods he grows.
(Mr. Ban's hand-baked potato chips, made one by one, are exquisite...!)
In 2022, Mr. Ban has started a hands-on farming business.
The name of the project is "Wild Paradise.
As the first workshop to commemorate the Wild Paradise, Wild Nature Farm The☆Ban presents "Pickle Making from Seeds with Genius Pickle Artist Jin-kun in Wild Nature Paradise".
The lecture is divided into two parts: "Field" and "Pickle".
In the "Field Course," participants will plant daikon, turnip, and Chinese cabbage seeds in early September, and harvest the vegetables sown from the seeds in early December. In the "pickle section," participants make pickles with the harvested vegetables under the guidance of the pickle master genius, Jin-kun.
I participated in the December harvesting
experience this time, and I had
the impression that harvesting vegetables
is a lot of fun! I had the impression
that harvesting vegetables is a lot of fun,
but of course, it is also quite hard work.
We started by harvesting daikon radishes
that were buried in the soil. It was cold
and drizzling on the day of the harvest, and it was also cold and drizzling on the day of the harvest. It was cold and drizzling, and the ground was wet, making it even more difficult to pull out the radishes. and the ground was wet, making it even more difficult to pull them out (according to Mr. Ban). The ground was wet, making it more difficult than usual to pull out the radishes (according to Mr. Ban).
We all pulled together to pull it off. We all pulled together to pull it out, but it It was not coming out at all.
So we decided to dig up the surrounding soil to make it easier to pull out. In the chilly, drizzling air, we dug silently for 15 minutes. Finally, we were able to harvest our first daikon radish.
I was so moved and relieved that I lost all strength.
After that, everyone continued digging and harvesting daikon radishes, Chinese cabbage, and turnips.
In the next class, we will use the vegetables we harvested this time to make pickles under the guidance of the pickle-making genius, Jin-kun.
The pickle-making workshop has been held for the past several years, but this is the first time to make pickles with vegetables that were planted from seeds by the students themselves. Some of the participants who had attended pickle-making workshops in the past said that they were looking forward to it so much that they decided to attend again this year.
I would like to take this opportunity to try growing vegetables from seeds in my own garden next year.
